7 Lucky Farms Cultivates Community and Collective Power in Riverside
For Xochitl Alejo, farming has always been about more than growing food.
Raised in a family of farmers, she watched her parents and grandparents carry generations of agricultural knowledge while navigating the challenges of building a life in a new country. Those experiences inspired a vision: create opportunities for immigrant and small-scale farmers to thrive—not by competing alone, but by growing together.
That vision became 7 Lucky Farms, an innovative network that helps independent micro farmers share resources, coordinate land access, strengthen distribution, and reach new markets. Rather than asking small farmers to become larger operations, the model empowers them to remain independent while benefiting from the strength of collaboration.
To turn that vision into a sustainable business, Alejo partnered with Caravanserai – Alliance for Entrepreneurs, a CalOSBA SCALE partner serving the Inland Empire. Through personalized business advising, marketing and sales strategy, website development, and guidance on accessing capital, she refined her business model and strengthened the foundation for long-term growth.
Her hard work culminated after eight months in Caravanserai's SEED Lab accelerator. On April 25, 2026, Alejo joined nine fellow entrepreneurs on stage at the SEED Lab Pitch Competition at Palm Springs' Annenberg Theater. When the audience cast its votes, 7 Lucky Farms earned the Audience Choice Award, recognizing both the strength of the business and the promise of its mission.
Today, Alejo is building more than a farm network.
She's helping create a future where immigrant and small-scale farmers have greater access to land, stronger market opportunities, and the support needed to build sustainable businesses. Her work demonstrates that when entrepreneurs share knowledge, resources, and opportunity, entire communities can grow stronger together.
Xochitl Alejo shows that while every successful entrepreneur doesn't have to build bigger—they can build
better together.
7 Lucky Farms is a powerful example of how collaboration, innovation, and community can create new pathways to economic opportunity for small businesses across the Inland Empire.
